Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was in chaos for the second day in a row on Thursday as IndiGo canceled 37 departures, leaving aggrieved fliers stranded without alternative arrangements and clear communication, sources said.
The carrier also canceled a similar number of inbound flights during the day, they said.
Several videos circulating on social media showed frustrated passengers arguing with airline staff over the cancellation and staging protest marches at the airport. Indigo canceled 19 flights from Hyderabad on Wednesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, RGIA said some IndiGo flights at the airport were affected due to the airline’s technology and operational issues, resulting in delays and cancellations.
Requesting passengers to contact IndiGo’s customer care team directly for the latest updates on the flight status, the airport said operations remain normal.
“Witness @IndiGo6E bogus service. No officials, help desk or information available. Chaos at @RGIAHyd, never imagined witnessing such scenes firsthand after 25 years of being a frequent flier,” said Shabd Mishra Director, Renaissance eServices Ltd.
“We were at Hyderabad airport from 6pm yesterday to 9am today – more than 12 hours – without any action from IndiGo regarding the Pune flight. This situation has caused considerable inconvenience,” one netizen said in a post on Thursday.
Another flyer said: “Total chaos at Hyderabad airport today – flights delayed 12 hours. To not provide accommodation they kept pushing for ‘just 2 more hours’ for 12 hours. Same excuse: crew will arrive early. Unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, as many as 11 IndiGo flights operating from the Goa International Airport in Dabolim were canceled on Thursday and 25 flights of the airline were delayed.
A senior official at India’s Dabolim airport, run by the airport authority, told PTI that passengers were informed about the cancellations in advance.
As many as 25 IndiGo flights operating from Dabolim airport were delayed. Delays ranged from a few minutes to five hours, the airport said in a post on X.
