Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu told the Rajya Sabha on Monday, December 8, that the IndiGo crisis occurred due to problems in “crew rostering and internal scheduling system”.
The Civil Aviation Minister detailed the Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) and said that from 1 November 2025 “new FDTL guidelines have been adopted”.
He informed that the government “conducted thorough consultations with all stakeholders when it was implemented and “due process was done for it”.
He said, “In April, as per the directions of the Supreme Court, on the order of the Supreme Court, it came into force.”
“There were 22 FDTL guidelines, 15 of them from July 1 and seven of them from November 1,” the minister said, adding that there were some variations that airlines were demanding from the guidelines that were proposed from November 1.
Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said that not only IndiGo but many stakeholders were consulted and they were told “strictly” that there must be no compromise on safety.
“There have been several consultations with stakeholders, not just IndiGo, but we have other players in the industry… where we have said very, very strictly that there must be no compromise on safety,” the minister said.
“Safety is the highest priority. We take care of the crew, we take care of the pilots and we take care of the safety of the entire system,” he said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
