Shreyas Iyer seems to be one step closer to his return to the Indian team as he is back in the nets and has reported to the BCCI Center Of Excellence ahead of the New Zealand series which starts on November 11. Shreyas has been on the sidelines since suffering a ruptured spleen during the third ODI against Australia at the SCG in October this year.
Since then, India’s ODI vice-captain has missed the series against South Africa with Ruturaj Gaikwad bats at number four. The Mumbai batsman shared a picture of himself at the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru on his Instagram stories along with a video of him batting in the nets at the Cricket Club Of India (CCI). The video showed Shreyas making light work inside the nets and playing some classy shots. It was interesting to note in the video shared on his Instagram stories that Shreyas was wearing a protective garment over the area where he sustained the injury during the series against Australia.

WILL SHREYAS PLAY AGAINST NEW ZEALAND?
This was reported earlier by India Today Shreyas was scheduled to undergo another ultrasound scan in the second week of December. After the assessment, he was expected to begin his rehabilitation program at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Center of Excellence in Bengaluru after consulting a specialist regarding the scan results.
As previously reported by India Today, Shreyas has already undergone an ultrasonography (USG) scan near his residence, with the findings reviewed by renowned sports medicine expert Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. The evaluation showed a steady improvement in his condition.
Based on this evaluation, he was allowed to resume normal daily activities along with basic isometric exercises.
Given the current pace of his recovery, it seems unlikely that Shreyas will be available for selection in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, with the emphasis being on ensuring a gradual and complete rehabilitation. Shreyas’ participation in the Vijay Hazare trophy will also be given the green light after his stint on the BCCI CoE.
