Deputy Commissioner Kumar said India’s first digital census, planned for 2027, will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, involving the house inventory and home census, will run from 16 April 2026 to 15 September 2026, while the population census phase will take place in February 2027.
In a preparatory meeting held in his office regarding the 2027 Census on February 17, Dr. Kumar said the Deputy Commissioner will serve as the Chief Enumerator at the district level. He directed officials to ensure timely appointment of required staff, including teachers and government employees, for conducting digital inventory of houses and flats.
He said that the recruitment of enumerators and supervisors must be completed through the CMMS portal. Officials have also been instructed to make adequate preparation for GPS-based digital mapping as part of the census process.
Dr. Kumar said officials and employees must clearly understand the guidelines issued by the government and follow them to ensure effective conduct of the census.
He urged the authorities to take the recruitment process seriously and ensure smooth execution of this massive exercise.
Additional Deputy Commissioner BS Shivanandamurthy emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among teachers and staff from various departments.
Mandya Sub-Divisional Officer M. Shivamurthy, District Urban Development Cell Planning Officer Narasimha Murthy and other district officials were present in the meeting.
