Rohit Girotra, one of the four founding members of the Bangalore Butterfly Club (BBC), is mesmerized by the “beautiful world” of these colorful insects. So he started with the BBC to introduce them to other Bengalurus, and since 2012 he has been leading butterfly walks – guided educational tools that help participants identify, learn more about or simply enjoy butterflies – at the Doresanipalya Forest Research Station off Bannerghatta Road.
Today, the BBC community is almost 600 strong and growing. “I feel like we’ve been successful in that,” says Rohit, who with another BBC co-founder, Ashok Sengupta, recently launched another Nature initiative, Papilio Trails, which offers a butterfly-focused travel experience. “We found places we’ve been that offer amazing butterfly experiences,” he says, listing some of them: Coorg in Karnataka, Upper Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and the Garo Hills in Meghalaya.
