The World Cup winning Indian women’s cricket team is likely to have its first foreign strength and conditioning coach in the near future. BCCI has already done several recruitments in the S&C department at the Center of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.
According to BCCI sources, Bangladesh men’s S&C coach Nathan Kiely is in talks with the Indian board and there are clear chances that he might join the COE. The current Indian S&C coach is AI Harrsha, who has done a brilliant job culminating in the World Cup title, but it is learned that the BCCB may have other assignments lined up for him.
In addition to working with the Bangladesh national team, Kiely also worked as an assistant coach with the New South Wales first-class team.
Normally, the S&C coaches who have been employed by the COE rotate to carry out assignments with the various national teams (men’s and women’s) along with the coaches and age group coaches. To date, the S&C women’s coaches have been those attached to the COE, but if Kiely takes over, he could be the first overseas coach.
The Indian S&C men’s coach is Adrian Le Roux, who is in the middle of his second stint. Meanwhile, the COE has also roped in two new in-house S&C coaches, Pratyush Agrawal and Amit Vengurlekar, who have roped in some of the team’s seasoned state support staff to get the job. Agrawal was the S&C assistant coach with Delhi Capitals, while Vengurlekar had the same designation with Lucknow Super Giants.
