Indian women’s team refuses to collect Asia Cup trophy from Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi

The Indian women’s team chose not to receive the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council president and Pakistan cricket chief Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday, September 13 in Dubai. The incident comes a year after the PCB chief refused to hand over the Asia Cup crown to the Indian men’s team

Cameras caught Mohsin Naqvi sitting alongside dignitaries later in the match as India sealed their last-gasp win over Sri Lanka. He was seen sitting close to BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, Secretary Devajit Saikia and others as the game ended and India won the match by 72 runs.

Naqvi was present on the dais and handed over the runner-up check to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. Immediately after Athapaththu spoke to Farvez Maharoof, the handover ceremony ended.

HOW NAQVI DID IN THE ASIA MEN’S CUP 2025 FINAL?

Chaos ensued in the men’s Asia Cup final in September 2025 after the Mohsin Naqvi-led ACC ran away with the Asian trophy and medals. The Indian cricket team, which had beaten Pakistan fairly, stood for more than an hour waiting to be called to the podium.

The Indian team said it would not collect the trophy from Naqvi amid India’s uneasy geopolitical relationship with Pakistan and requested that the vice-chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board hand over the trophy.

However, Naqvi rejected the request and remained firm on his stand that India would have to win the trophy from him. Crazy scenes ensued as one of the ACC officials was seen removing the trophy from the ground while the Indian team waited to take the podium.

India is yet to receive the trophy from the ACC and the tie continued, Naqvi held his ground and said the team captain should collect it right from his hands.
