Parts of India are facing air quality scares, with the country’s capital worst hit, with people fleeing abroad for fresh air. However, an Indian engineer living in Sweden in Europe says he will return to Delhi on December 5 and “doesn’t care” about the AQI – which is still very bad – because he needs “real oxygen from friends and family… see you in India soon.”
A user who goes by the name Ankur Tyagi shared the hidden problems of living away from family. He added that “the AQI here is 10” but the isolation and loneliness cannot be overlooked.
Tyagi, who has been staying in the European nation for the past five years, expressed his views on social media platform X – the post of which has garnered thousands of views and caught the attention of many.
Here is what he said:
“I’ve been living in the EU for the past five years and people think it’s clean air, good roads and perfect social systems. No one really knows what it takes to build a life here,” Tyagi wrote in the post.
“You do everything yourself. You cook, clean, manage the bills, raise your child and fight the silence that comes over you every winter.”
“Friends are polite but distant. Community is rare. At home you fight corruption and chaos, but at least you have people around you.”
“The problems in the West are different and run deeper in ways you can’t explain unless you’ve experienced it.”
“Every place costs something. Most of us are just learning what costs we can survive. I’m arriving in Delhi on Dec 5th f*** AQI who cares, I’ve been living in 10 AQI all year and now I need real oxygen from friends and family…see you in India soon.”
“All places have their pros and cons. It’s up to us to deal with the pros,” one user said in the comments section.
“You are always one step ahead when you all need your people; all other things are manageable,” added another.
“I stayed in the US for a few months and realized it wasn’t for me. I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but I felt completely alone there. It’s something you can’t express, but you nailed it,” said a third.
