A court was launched, in which the waiting list status was declared 24 hours before the train departure, instead of the current practice of the passenger announcement only 4 hours before, the Ministry of Railway said on Wednesday (June 11, 2025).
Ministry officials assured that the pilot project would become part of politics only after receiving a positive response from passengers.
“We started this pilot project in the Bikaner division, where graphs are being prepared 24 hours before the train. The current practice does it 4 hours ago,” said Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board.
He noted that this court was carried out with regard to passenger concerns who remain insecure about their journey for a waiting card. “Now, if they know 24 hours before, their tickets are confirmed, they can better plan travel,” he added. However, as soon as the ticket is confirmed, the passenger will lose a significant amount of the ticket as a punishment in case of cancellation.
According to the cancellation policy, if the confirmed ticket is canceled between 48 hours and 12 hours before departure, passengers will receive 25% back the ticket back. If they are canceled between 12 hours and 4 hours before departure, they will only receive 50%.
“The seats or berths that will be released due to cancellation will be filled through the current reservation system,” the officials said.
