
With effect from January 1, 2024, the Indian Railways has increased the Allowances and Allowance Kilometers (ALK) for all employees across its system, according to a PTI report today.
The upward revision is consistent with a 50% increase in Rarity Allowance (DA).
The revised rates are as per Railway Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016 and all other conditions for admissibility of allowance per kilometer and ALK remain unchanged, he added.
Which Indian Railways employees will benefit from the hike?
The layoffs from Indian Railways credited thousands of employees with keeping “the wheels of India’s vast railway network turning round the clock”. This includes thousands of dedicated Locomotive Pilots, Assistant Locomotive Pilots, Firemen, Guards and other operational staff of the Railway Authority of India.
The statement further said that the revision will benefit operational staff across Indian Railways by providing better compensation in line with the current DA levels. “It reflects Indian Railways’ continued commitment to the welfare and financial improvement of the operational staff who form the backbone of their operations,” the report added.
