Indian railways are soon planning to expand rail connectivity to northeastern states. The survey of new projects is carried out, the railway authorities said. In addition, the railway connectivity to Sikkim is taking place and the new line will be completed soon.
“Indian railways have introduced new projects in hilly terrains connecting the capitals of Manipur and Nagaland. A survey is underway and the work is expected to be completed in the next four years,” said South Central Railway (CPRO).
“The creation of a new railway station in the village of Sairang in Mizoram has provided connectivity to the last point of the northeast states. More such projects are on the pipeline,” said Northeast Frontier Nalanjan Deb on Thursday.
The new railway line laid from Bairabi to Sairang connects Haalkang, Kawapui and Hotaki Habitations. The new line will benefit several thousand tribes living in Mizoram and neighboring off -road, said Tommy, student.
“The road from Bairabi to Sairang is a great experience. The train will pass 48 tunnels, 87 smaller bridges built on rivers and streams, 65 main bridges and six roads under the bridges,” said Wesley, who first traveled to Sairang during the test drive.
“Due to the poor connectivity of roads and railways to Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram and the surrounding towns and villages in hilly areas have been away from the mainland in the last few decades,” said Dennis, operating the Floria in the busy bazaars in Aizawl.
“The new Sairang railway station, located 20 km from the Aizawl, will help many tribes.
