What led to an investigation
Police officials launched an investigation after a woman announced an attempt to rape 13 October last year.
The police were warned by the victim, who accidentally met two officers outside the service near the Southall Park in Ealing in West London, and then accompanied her to the nearest police station.
Namop Singh was sitting on a bench in Southall Park during the early hours of 13 October and, according to the Metropolitan Police, deliberately waited for a potential victim to pass. He was armed with an imitation of a firearm – which he ordered and gathered – and used it to endanger a woman while trying to rape her.
On days that followed, officers reviewed the CCTV shots in an effort to identify the suspect. However, before Singha could be detained, there was a second incident – the rape of a child in another park 23.
“Using the increased sources made available, officers secured further forensic evidence. Officers were able to trace the perpetrators in several doors of their home addresses, where they supplied leaflets to appeal for witnesses and make increased patrols,” said the police Met.
