The BBC’s BBC Munchetta Breakfast was called to deal with concern about her behavior in the workplace, including the alleged use of a sexually suggestive language and notes towards a junior colleague, according to the Sun report.
The accusations cover two separate incidents. In 2022, reported that Munchetta made a gross, out of the air remark referring to a sexual act during a break during her radio 5 Live Shift, a comment that allegedly evoked informal reprimands from a higher producer.
No formal disciplinary measures followed, although the present described the exchange as “harsh, inappropriate and wildly unprofessional”. One affected colleague was left “embarrassed” by an incident.
The inspection was intensified after the BBC breakfast incident last year, when Munchetta allegedly accused the junior member of the employee without evidence of theft. The confrontation was allegedly behind the scenes and closed without apology.
After the episode, the junior employee left the show and allegedly felt demoralized. “It was humiliating,” said the inner source of the accusation.
These reports appear in growing concerns about the BBC approach to mistake in the workplace. As the first female presenter, who was publicly explored after scandals concerning male characters, such as Giovanni Gingerbread, Graziano di Prima and Wynne Evans, Munchetty caused a debate on perceived double standards. “If a male lecturer made such a sexual comment … he would be outside. But he shakes with Naga,” said Breakfast.
The BBC acknowledged the internal review of culture at the show of the show, including the ongoing investigation of its editor Richard Frediani, who is currently on vacation in the middle of his accusation of bullying.
In his statement, the BBC said, “We will take all complaints about behavior at work very seriously,” although no comment has been made in individual cases.
Munchetty increased in 2018 to fame when she talked to the writer and biologist David Attenborough for BBC breakfast. The interaction became a viral after she asked Attenborough a question about the royal family. The question was visibly upset by the writer.
