On Friday (September 12, 2025), Prime Minister Narendra Modi detonated the digitization of Indian ancient manuscripts and the creation of a database to share knowledge.

Mr Modi, who addressed the International Conference “Regeneration of Indian Knowledge through a Manuscript Heritage” as part of the start of Gyan Bharatam, said that digitization would also help reduce “intellectual piracy” because the information was copied and patented a lot of time with others.
He said the exercise would be an extension of the country’s determination to follow the concept of “Swadeshi” (produced in India) and “Atmanirbhar (separate) Bharat”.
More than 10 Laky Digitized
The Prime Minister said India has the largest collection of about one manuscripts in the world, of which more than 10 lamps have been digitized. He praised private organizations for cooperation with the government to achieve this goal.
India now proudly presents its heritage to the world of ancient knowledge preserved in its manuscripts for centuries, adding that India is also working with other countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Mongolia, with which he enjoyed cultural ties and are home to such manuscripts.
“Crores manuscripts have been destroyed throughout history, but those that remain show how our ancestors were knowledge, science and learning,” Modi said.
“Indian manuscripts contain traces of developmental paths of all mankind.” He said India was a living stream with his cultural identity, consciousness and soul, and her history is not just about the rise and fall of the dynasty.
The portal launched
The Prime Minister also launched the “Gyan Bharatam” portal, a specialized digital storage platform that seeks to speed up the digitization and preservation of ancient Indian manuscripts and strengthen the spread of traditional knowledge.
