The 58 -year -old Indian National, Ramalingam Selvasecaran, was sentenced to 14 years, three months and two weeks of prison by the Singapore High Court for alleged sexual assault on the minor. The sentence includes another prison instead of 15 strokes of a stick. It is not possible because of his age, as stested by the Times
Ramalingam, who owns a commission shop, gave an eleven -year -old girl who visited her shop, and when she later returned that day to buy ice cream, he sexually attacked her.
The incident occurred on October 28, 2021 in his Jurong West shop between 16:50 and around 17:05. Ramalingam reportedly led the girl to the internal restriction of her business to touch her and make her oral sex.
After the attacks, the girl was looking for help from a passerby who called the police.
Ramalingam says he is innocent: “physically unable to commit an attack”
Ramalingam noticed that he was innocent and said he would appeal to his beliefs.
The Straits Times report also said that Ramalingam claimed that the girl’s account was unreliable. He asked why she would look for help from a stranger instead of someone who is known, and also said that it was suspected that there was no police camera that would return to her house after the incident.
He also claimed that he was physically able to commit an attack for erectile dysfunction and pointed out that his DNA was not found on the victim.
Judge Aidan XU, however, ruled that the prosecution has shown its case beyond reasonable doubt. The judge said the testimony of the girl was consistent and trustworthy, without major shortcomings in his version of the events.
