The name Pataudi Trophy was originally planned to change to the TROBULKAR-andSON trophy (picture via x/@cricketmodcom & wisdencricket) The cricket council in England and Wales decided to keep the Patudi inheritance in India-England Cricket by introducing the new Pataudi medal for the winning captain of the upcoming series of five tests after renaming the Pataudi trophy to Tendulkar-andrson Trophy. The formal announcement, originally planned during the Lord’s WTC finals, was postponed due to the accident of Air India in Ahmedabad.The decision to rename the trophy faced criticism of cricket veterans, including former Indian captain Sunil Gavascar. Sachin Tendulkar, however, personally intervened in this matter and addressed the ECB to maintain the name Pataudi in the bilateral series.“When this happened, Sachin addressed the ECB and said that the name of Pataudi should remain part of the rivalry of India-English. Jay Shah was involved in the discussions. The ECB agreed to the request and decided to submit the medal of the Pataudi winning captain,” BCCI said.The formal announcement on the renaming of the trophy is now scheduled for 19th June, one day before the start of the Leeds series.
