An Indian professional living in Singapore has sparked chatter on social media after posting a video that contrasts workplace expectations in India and Singapore.
The man, identified as Aman, uploaded a short film on Instagram, offering glimpses of his Singapore office while sharing his thoughts. In a speech, he said: “In India we had to beg for leave, mr health is bad, mr family emergency, we had to invent a tragedy just to get Friday off. Here in Singapore, I don’t ask, just inform. My phone is on after 6pm, boss nahi, no calls, no guilt, just life. If you sit in the office after 8pm and work hard, my friend, you’re just not exploited.”
According to him, simply informing the team about time off — rather than asking for approval — was one of the biggest changes in behavior he experienced after the relocation.
In the caption accompanying the clip, Aman wrote: “The biggest mindset change I’ve had is moving to Singapore. Stop justifying your time off. In toxic cultures you feel the need to explain why you’re not working. You share details and hope for sympathy or approval.”
He noted that this change in approach helped him understand how different business environments shape an employee’s confidence, boundaries and mental well-being.
Here’s how people responded:
His comment struck a chord with many Indian workers, who often highlight similar concerns — strict vacation rules, long working hours and the lingering expectation to remain available after hours. The video renewed conversations about healthier work structures and the need for trust-based systems.
Online response
The clip caused a flood of reactions. One commenter hoped that “GenZ will change it in India”, while another said: “I want this kind of work culture too.”
Others strongly related to his observations, with a user commenting: “As an Indian I totally relate to India’s toxic work culture” and another wrote: “You are doing your dream job,” applauding his better work-life balance. A few of the reactions were simply emotional, with viewers saying things like “That’s so cool” and “I’m jealous of you bro.”
