Another head coach of the Indian men’s football team will be announced 1 August, when the Executive Committee of the National Federation meets and Khalid Jamil appears as a pioneer for unoccupied work. While Jamil seems to be the preferred candidate of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Technical Commission, former Indian coach Stephen Constantine remains in rivalry for the highest job.
“Yes, the Executive Committee met 1 August to decide on the main coach of the national team of men,” AIFF said. “Members received CVS all three candidates for a short part and what they want as a reward, etc.,” he added. The Executive Committee has a single point agenda – the appointment of the head coach of the national men’s national team.
Given the current financial limits AIFF, Jamil will be popular to replace Manolo Marquez as a new head coach. Since 48 -year -old Jamil is currently with the Indian Super League Side Jamshedpur FC, he can immediately go on the road and be prepared for the tasks of the national team.
In September, the international FIFA window is an international match and India plays its AFC Asian Cup qualifying round game 9 and 14 October – against the Singapore House and away.
Jamil, a former Indian midfielder and now a coach of AFC Pro, was appointed coach of the year AIFF for the period 2023-24 and 2024–25.
Marquez was in a dual role before the division of the AFF ways at the beginning of this month. He was the head coach of Isl Side FC Goa at the same time.
However, it is not yet clear whether Jamil also performs a dual role or leaves his work in Jamshedpur FC if he gets a job in India.
“It is a challenge of the Executive Committee and the members will take into account various factors,” the source added.
AIFF also said that the Executive Committee, if required, can look for more names for the work of the head coach.
“The key transmission of the negotiations was the shared view that the appointment of a coach with a deep understanding of Asian and Indian football ecosystem would be very beneficial for the immediate and future success of the national team,” AIFF said on Saturday.
As far as international experience is concerned, Constantine is far ahead of Jamil. Anglo-Cypriot is in charge of the Indian team twice earlier in 2002 until 2005 and since 2015 to the Asian Cup in 2019.
62-year-old UEFA license holder also trained East Bengal in Super League, India in 2022-23 and was the head coach of Pakistan until recently.
Previously, he worked as a head coach of countries like Nepal, Malawi and Rwanda.
The third name in the short list sent to the Executive Committee by the AFF Technical Committee, led by former captain Im Vijayan, is 52 -year -old Stefan Tarkovic, who previously trained the Slovak national team from 2020 to 2022.
