The Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Santosh Jha has met the ruling Secretary General Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Tilvin Silvine to discuss the recent development in bilateral partnerships and potential for closer economic ties.
“The High Commissioner Santosh Jha has met the Secretary General of JVP Tilvin Silva and discussed the recent development in the partnership of #indiasrilanka,” on Monday (October 14, 2025), the Indian High Commission in Colombo on Social Media.
The duo exchanged “views on the unlimited potential of closer economic links for the prosperity of people in India and Sri Lanka,” she added.
The meeting took place at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatte, Battaramulla, and covered the current situation in Sri Lanka, including the success of the Indian Housing project for the displaced hilly community, Sri Lanka Mirror reported on Tuesday (October 14, 2025).
While Mr Silva expressed gratitude to India for her contribution, the Indian envoy promised further assistance to Sri Lanka, the report is said.
The two also discussed potential Indian investments and assistance, along with experience in sharing progress in India in agriculture, information technology and fishing.
The meeting is preceded by a planned visit in India in October, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
This will mean Amarasuriya’s first official visit to India since he took over the office as Prime Minister Sri Lanka, the report said.
In a video statement published before the visit, PM Amarasuriya said: “India and Sri Lanka, as you know, are connected by history, culture and shared values. Our relationship is of great depth and importance and I look forward to taking this opportunity to strengthen our cooperation in each sphere, including investment, education, development and on.” ”
National Human Force (NPP), known in Sinhale as Jan Balawegay (JJB), is the ruling alliance of Sri Lanka.
NPP consists of different different groups, including political parties and other organizations led by Janatha Vimukthi Pernuna (JVP).
