For Yash Dhull, the dream of dressing India’s jersey remains alive, but the young dilla dough insists that its focus is fixed on here and now. The former captain with the victory at the U-19 World Cup, through failures and successes, learned that looking too far ahead could be costly.
This thinking was evident in Delhi Premier League (DPL) on Saturday, where 22 years showed his talent with a breathtaking 51 ball 105.
“I’m thinking about how I can take the opportunity I have, if you think too much about the future, you can’t play well now,” Dhull said.
“I live in the present and do my practice side by side, I will launch a little against the red ball on the lessons at the National Cricket Academy (now the BCCI Center of Excellence) about how to move from the white ball to Red Ball cricket right now,” he added.
Surgery for the “smaller” congenital problem in July last year forced Dhull to stop, re -evaluate and eventually returned to the cricket field.
“The incident helped me a lot because I learned what everything wasn’t going to do with me at that time. I knew I was alone, and I had no choice but to make a comeback. I just behaved mentally strong,” Dhull said.
“(But) I had confidence in myself. I knew one day I would play again and knew how to do it and how I could do it,” he recalled.
If his inner strength carried him the most difficult period, his coaches helped to shape his revival.
“They are those who have taught me everything. I am blessed to have such good coaches. I have Rajesh Nagar Sir and Pradeep Kochhar Sir who taught me. They must be very happy to see my matches.
Dhull’s early promise was obvious in his debut Ranji Trophy Season in 2021-22, when he ended up as a front run-greetter dilli with 479 runs in six shifts in a stunning diameter of 119.75. This run included hundreds of both shifts on the debut and undefeated double century against Chhattisgarh.
Last season he added 286 runs in seven matches at 40.90, including two centuries and marked steady progress after the operation.
This year’s DPL was Dhull in the Scintilation of Touch and accumulated 292 runs in five shifts in a blow of 180.25 – the third among the front shooters of the tournament.
But the 2024-25 season brought more than just running; It brought clarification. Its technique now contains a gentle trigger movement, improvement, which they believe has brought a greater balance to its batting.
“You know that you have to make small changes in your life and I have done the same. I try to make small changes every day, because now everyone is playing at a good level like IPL Plus, video analysis helps opposition better against you,” he explained.
“Bowler as a Harshit Rana, who plays an international cricket for India, won’t let me score if I play the same,” he added.
“I’m currently enjoying the game. I don’t think too much about my runs, I take things to the game according to the game and respond appropriately.”
Aspirations play for India remain alive, but Dhull insists that he will not be carried away.
“It is very important to me to stay at the moment because I made this mistake before. I was thinking more about the future, I thought about the past,” he said.
“It’s very simple, stay in your gift, catch the opportunity, and everyone’s fate, touch.
