
India received the Presidency of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) for the period 2025–2028, the government statement said on Wednesday (May 4, 2025).
While IIAS is not a formally associated UN, it actively deals with the work of the UN in the field of public administration. India has been a Member State of IIA since 1998, represented by the Ministry of Administrative Reforms and Public Complaints.
IIAS is a global federation including 31 Member States, 20 national sections and 15 academic research centers that cooperate on scientific research in public administration. The key Member States include India, Japan, China, Germany, Italy, Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Mexico, Spain, Katar, Morocco and Indonesia.
In the upcoming period Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated V. Srinivas, secretary of the Ministry of Administrative Reforms and Public Complaints, as an Indian candidate in November 2024. Hearing for the Presidency took place in Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Four nations – India, South Africa, Austria and Bahrain – have presented nominations. The elections held on June 3, 2025 saw India and Austria to advance to the last round. Of the 141 votes respondents, India provided 87 votes (61.7%), while Austria received 54 votes (38.3%).
The Indian candidacy received extensive support from the entire membership, the statement said.
