India will move forward with its plans to strengthen the custody with Cyprus, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Nicosia, where he arrived on Sunday (June 15, 2025) in the evening.
PM Modi was welcomed by President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoules at the airport and met with a resident Indian community in the island nation that supported Indian position on Kashmir and last expressed solidarity with India after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam 22 April.
“This visit will bring significant dynamics to the relations between India-Cyprus, especially in areas such as trade, investment and more,” PM Modi said on arrival. “I thank the Indian community for love. India will continue to strengthen its ties with Cyprus in the future,” Prime Minister Modi said after meeting with the Indian community.

After the welcome ceremony and meeting with resident Indians, Mr. Modi attended a discussion on the round table of Cyprus-India organized by the Cyprus Chamber and Industry.

The visit, which is significant to India, sends a message to neighboring Turkey, coincided with the conflict of Israel-Iran. When the airships above Iran, Lebanon and Israel were closed for the conflict, the official aircraft Modi flew through the Arab Sea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrei and Egypt before arrived at Cyprus.
The ceremonial welcome to Mr. Modi is scheduled for Monday (June 16, 2025), when both leaders will sit on limited interviews and for interviews at the level of delegation, followed by a press statement. After closing the Cyprus contracts, the Prime Minister will go to Calgary, Canada to participate in the G-7 summit.
