India warned Pakistan of “high probability” flooding in the Sutlej River, with continuous precipitation in the northern states that forced the release of excess water from the main dams, said on Tuesday (September 2, 2025).
The warning was directed to Islamabad through the Ministry of External Affairs for “Humanitarian Reasons”, they said.

India released three warnings last week about possible floods in the Tawi River.
The warning on Tuesday was for the probable flood on Wednesday (September 3) in the Sutlej River, the sources said.
In Punjab are the rivers Sutlej, Beas and Ravi and seasonal streams in their basin.
India suspended a routine exchange of hydrological data with Pakistan in the Indus Waters contract after a terrorist attack of Pahalgam, which was killed by 22 people, mostly tourists, killed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Despite the suspension, the new warnings of floods were communicated purely for humanitarian reasons in Pakistan to avoid loss of life and property, sources said.
Indus Waters, signed in 1960 and mediated by the World Bank, has long been followed by the sharing of river waters between India and Pakistan.
