India vs Uruguay Live Score: Here it is! Both teams name their XIs, Kolkata ready for kick-off – The Tech Word News

India will take on two-time FIFA World Cup winners Uruguay in Kolkata on Tuesday, October 6, with the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan hosting the final match of the Blue Tigers’ September-October 2026 FIFA international window. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30 IST as Khalid Jamil’s side look to finish a tough stretch of fixtures on a positive note after facing Panama and Brazil earlier in the break.

The gap between the two teams is significant on paper, with Uruguay ranked 20th in the world and India ranked 138th. After Brazil’s 4-0 win at the same venue on Saturday, Uruguay is the next major test for Jamil’s players.

India showed plenty of resilience against Panama in Bengaluru to draw 1-1 after Ryan Williams opened the scoring and Omar Valencia equalized after half-time. The result was remarkable as it gave India their first result against a top-50 opponent, while the Blue Tigers followed that performance with a difficult task against Brazil. Williams has been one of India’s most consistent players during this period and Manvir Singh also performed well against Brazil.

The goalkeeping department provided less comfort with both Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Prabhsukhan Singh Gill conceding soft goals against Brazil. Jamil is expected to demand another disciplined performance against the Uruguayan side, combining physicality with technical quality and a traditionally aggressive South American style.

Jamil knows exactly what his players will face and emphasized that India cannot just sit back during the game.

“Like I said, they are physically strong so we have to match them. Tactically they are also good,” the India head coach said during the pre-match press conference on Monday. “Depending on the situation, we have to act. If defense is called for, we’ll defend. If there’s a need to attack, we’ll go for it.”

Uruguay enter the match under the management of Diego Forlán, who took over in August following the departure of Marcelo Bielsa following their group stage exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Forlán’s first match ended in a 1–3 defeat against Japan, but Uruguay responded with a 4–1 victory over Korea Republic, with Núñez scoring twice.

Forlán brings a personal connection to India after spending six months with Mumbai City FC during the 2016 ISL season, scoring five goals in 12 games and sharing a dressing room with Sunil Chhetri. He has since returned almost a decade later as head coach of Uruguay and has made it clear that he is not going to underestimate India.

“There is never an easy match in football,” said Forlán. “We will try to do our best and enjoy our match against India tomorrow.

After watching India against Brazil, Forlán also warned his players against giving Jamil’s side too much freedom.

“You could see some combinations, some long balls, some good players,” he said. “If you give them time and space, they can hurt you and they can play well. So you have to respect everybody.”

Uruguay will be without Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde due to a left ankle injury, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Sebastián Cáceres and Brian Rodríguez are also unavailable. Emiliano Martínez was called up to replace Valverde.

India and Uruguay have only met twice with La Celeste winning both meetings. Uruguay won 3–1 at the Eden Gardens in the 1982 Nehru Cup despite Manas Bhattacharjee scoring for India, while the Uruguayan B team won 3–0 in Kochi during the 2001 Millennium Super Soccer Cup.
