Reactions from senior government ministers and officials have poured in after the India-US trade deal was struck, with leaders highlighting its historic significance and wide-ranging benefits. They welcomed the agreement, calling it a significant step to deepen bilateral ties, boost trade and create new opportunities for businesses, farmers, skilled workers and citizens in both countries.

The responses highlight the strategic, economic and diplomatic importance of the agreement. By reducing tariffs and pushing for increased cooperation in sectors such as technology, energy and agriculture, the agreement is expected to strengthen India-US cooperation and unlock new growth opportunities for industry and people on both sides.

Amit Shah: ‘Big day for India-US relations’

Home Minister Amit Shah said the agreement marked a significant moment in relations between the two countries, pointing to lower tariffs and better trade prospects.

“Big day for India-US relations as the trade deal was concluded with a significantly reduced tariff of 18%, paving the way for stronger trade ties and mutual growth,” Shah wrote on X, congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on what he called a historic deal that will benefit the people of both countries.

Piyush Goyal: “Historical turning point”

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal described the agreement as a reflection of two like-minded democracies working together for common prosperity.

Describing it as more than just a trade deal, Goyal said it would “reshape India-US relations” and accelerate India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047. He highlighted new opportunities for farmers, small and medium enterprises, entrepreneurs and skilled workers, adding that the pact would promote access to technology and innovation under “Make in India” and “Design in India” initiatives.

Ashwini Vaishnaw: “Bargain Deal”

IT and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the strategic and economic complementarity between the two countries.

“The US and India are the world’s largest democracies… The US-India trade agreement will lead to a better future for both countries,” he said, calling the deal a win-win for citizens and industries on both sides.

Vinay Kwatra: “Big win for subsequent partnership”

India’s ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, termed the agreement led by Prime Minister Modi and President Trump as a “big win”.

He said the deal would create “enormous new opportunities for the two economies and people of our two great nations”, marking an exciting new phase in the India-US partnership.
