Ponting, who trained the Pandjab King to the IPL 2025 finals, believes that the added responsibility for leadership could affect Gill’s launch, which still requires improvement of the red ball format.Go beyond the border with our YouTube channel. And it’s never easy to have a new captain – have to take care of your launch to the point that he’ll have to. It won’t be easy for him.”

Should SHUBMAN GILL bat on No. 4 to alleviate its pressure on the captain in the tests?
It is expected that Gill, who began as an opener and moved to No. 3, inherits the unoccupied slot no. 4 virata kohli. Ponting sees this as a strategic step that could alleviate the burden during Gill’s early captain’s days.

“If they go with (Yashasvi) Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan as opening, they need someone who is more experienced at 3 – maybe KL Rahul or Karun Nair. It would allow SHUBMA to toss in four,” Ponting explained. “Once you grow up, you can move back to No. 3.”Despite concerns, Ponting remains convinced of Gill’s long -term prospects of leadership.“It seems to be a kind of guy who wouldn’t match too much. He’s really his head on her shoulders.Ponting, one of the best cricket captains, also dissected Gill’s shortcomings in the test cricket – especially his tendency to play with hard hands and his occasional garbage in focus.

“I think it’s more of his mental application,” Ponting said. “Technically there is nothing wrong. But sometimes he could get in front of him or a little lazy. You have to be 100% committed for each ball, for six or seven hours of the day. This is a challenge for SHUBMAN.”Comparison with Viender Sehwag, Ponting, said, “Some great test players did not have great defensive games. But if you have control over your move, it’s less worried. Defense is important, but the idea matters.”
