India to use ODI glory to fuel T20 Women’s World Cup: Amol Muzumdar

India head coach Amol Muzumdar said the team will use last year’s ODI World Cup triumph as motivation heading into the Women’s T20 World Cup. India begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, hoping to build on their historic 50th World Cup success.

However, Muzumdar emphasized that T20 cricket is a completely different format and played down any added pressure that comes with the World Cup title, noting that India’s title came in the ODI format.

“It’s a completely different format, isn’t it? I mean, yes, we’ve won the World Cup, but that was in ODIs, this is a completely new format. So I think we’re really looking forward to it,” Muzumdar said.

“One thing I can assure you is that we would take a lot from that World Cup to get to this tournament because we know for sure that we will cross the line,” added Muzumdar.

MUZUMDAR praises YASTIK

Muzumdar also praised goalkeeper Yastika Bhatia for her impressive comeback from injury. Yastika missed last year’s ODI World Cup after suffering a serious left knee injury in September 2025 and subsequently underwent successful surgery, reportedly for ACL reconstruction.

She returned to international cricket in the three-match T20I series against England, where she emerged as the top run-scorer despite India losing the series 2–1.

“It was really unfortunate that she had to miss out at the last minute. It was a huge injury and the way she came back, the way she fought her way back into this team, just tells you a little bit about how this team responds to challenges. I think Yastika is a good example of that,” Muzumdar added.

India head into the Women’s T20 World Cup after back-to-back defeats against England and South Africa. They won their opening warm-up match against the West Indies before suffering a loss to England in their final warm-up match.

India have been placed in Group A and will face Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands, who will be bidding to make a strong start to their campaign.
