India will host a meeting of air accident investigators in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time from October 28 to 31, 2025 in the country’s capital.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) on behalf of the Ministry of Civil Aviation will host a four-day meeting of the Asia-Pacific Accident Investigation Group (APAC-AIG).
“This will be the first time that India will host the APAC-AIG meeting. It will be attended by representatives of air accident investigation authorities of Asia-Pacific countries as well as representatives of ICAO,” AAIB Director General GVG Yugandhar told PTI.
The meeting will discuss various aspects of air accident investigation, including processes and reporting. The meeting will be attended by around 90 delegates, including 60 from various countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
On October 28 and 29, workshops related to air accident investigation will be held. These workshops will be held by officials from AAIB, DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), along with international participants. Representatives of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) member states in the Asia-Pacific region and representatives of the AAIB will hold discussions on 30 and 31 October.
The meeting will be inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on October 28.
The AAIB is responsible for classifying safety incidents involving aircraft operating in Indian airspace into accidents, serious incidents and incidents. It conducts detailed accident investigations and also suggests measures to improve safety. The AAIB is currently handling around 25 air accident investigations, including the fatal crash of an Air India plane on 12 June 2025 that killed 260 people.
