India to fly to Sri Lanka, do usual pre-match duties despite Pakistan boycott: Sources

February 1, 2026

After Pakistan announced that it will not take the field against India in the 2026 T20 World Cup, the Indian team is expected to continue following the protocols set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the game scheduled to be played on February 15 in Colombo.

The Pakistan government shared a post on X confirming that they will be participating in the 2026 ICC show but will not be participating in their group stage game against India. There was no official word on why Pakistan took this stance.

But India Today has learned from reliable top sources that the Indian team will go ahead with this match as planned. This includes their trip to Sri Lanka, which they should have made had they played Pakistan.

In addition, they will also continue training as scheduled and will also attend a pre-match press conference.

The Indian team is expected to arrive at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on time and wait until the match referee decides to call off the match if Pakistan does not turn up to play.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make a public statement following the news of Pakistan’s boycott of the match against India.

Earlier there were reports that Pakistan would boycott the match against India and it was also mentioned that the ICC had no official word on the matter.
