India is one of the countries with low mushroom consumption, although mushrooms are a rich source of nutrition. According to experts, mushroom consumption per capita in India is only 100 g per year compared to 15 to 20 kg in China, 10 kg in the US and 8 to 10 kg in Europe.
With the huge potential for the country to catch up with the production and consumption of mushrooms, the University of Agricultural Sciences-Bengalur is trying to push mushrooms from 3 to November 7 to November 7.
From 11 countries
Briefing media, Anurag Saxen, founder Milkiway, who is co -organizer, said that experts and entrepreneurs from 11 countries, including the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Nepal and Bhutan, would participate in an event to increase mushroom consumption.
The event will have a two -day conference and an exhibition from 3 to 4 November and three -day training on mushroom growing from 5 to 7 November.
He said that the summit focused on strengthening the value chain of fungi connection of growers, suppliers, investors and markets in addition to supporting innovation and research through cooperation.
Vice-President of UAS-B Dr. SV Suresha said that increasing fungi consumption would make a long way to ensure nutritional safety.
The university tried not only to create awareness among farmers to engage in the cultivation of mushrooms as a profitable enterprise, but also focused on increasing fungal exports through quality production. “We want educated farmers not only to develop mushrooms, but also become entrepreneurs by making their marketing through connection with digital platforms. Mushrooms also have high potential for employment. We want to explore it,” he said.
Five -day course
He explained that, as accumulation at the summit, the university launched a five -day paid course that covers all aspects of mushrooms, from cultivation to marketing and business planning. A total of 250 persons, including doctors, engineers and persons from the corporate sector, have so far been trained under this course in the last year and most of them became fungal entrepreneurs, he noted.
