On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) claimed that Indian relations with Russia are stable and are based on merit. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesman for Mea, stressed that Indian relations with any country should not be seen by the prism of a third country.
Jaiswal said, as he quoted, “our ties with any country stands on their merit and should not be seen from the prism of a third country. In terms of relations in India-Russia, we have a permanent and time-tested partnership.”
To the American tariffs
Jaiswal responded to the comments of the United States President Donald Trump to his social media platform, Truth Social, in which he criticized India and Russia.
“I don’t care what India is doing with Russia. They can reduce their dead economies together, for everything I care about. With India, we have done very few trades – their tariffs are too high, among the highest in the world.
Mea spokesman, however, repeated the importance of partnership in India and the USA. “India and the US share a complex global strategic partnership enshrined in shared interests, democratic values and robust ties between people. This partnership has been weathed several crossings and challenges.
Meanwhile, the US President has imposed tariffs on several nations, including 25 percent in India, effectively from August 7.
India, however, excluded immediate retaliation to the surprise of President Donald Trump 25 % of the tariff threat. Officials in Nový Delhi were shocked and disappointed by Trump’s announcement.
On July 30, Trade Minister Piyush Goyal told Parliament that the government is now working with exporters to assess the impact of Trump’s tariffs. “The consequences of recent development are examined,” Goyal said because the opposition organized loud protests. He added that his ministry collects feedback from exporters and industrial groups and takes “all the necessary steps to secure and progress in our national interest”.
