India is solving its trade problems in a big way but is currently unable to solve its social problems at the same pace, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Member of Parliament for Mysuru observed here on Wednesday.
Unveiling the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s (BCIC) Golden Jubilee Year logo here, Mr. Wadiyar said, “We are solving business problems in a big way but we are not able to solve social needs in a big way. So I would say there is a need for active alignment and a proactive agenda around CSR.” He went on to say that it shouldn’t just be about ticking a box, but about real change.
He argued that regulatory frameworks should really catch up to ensure that economic growth reaches the last mile.
“As we celebrate BCIC’s golden jubilee, we must remember that the strong 50-year foundation that has been built is not just a milestone of the past but a stepping stone for the next 50 years of India’s growth journey,” he said.
Tracing BCIC’s roots and connections to the royal family, he said the trade body was established in the erstwhile state of Mysore under Maharaja Nalwadi Krishna Raja Wadiyar and headed by Diwan Sir M. Visvesvaraya, with the support of Yuvraja Kantirava Narasimharaja Wadiyar.
He noted that this early institution laid the foundation for structured industry-government collaboration in Karnataka. In parallel, he said that BCIC continues this legacy by serving as a vital platform to support policy makers and strengthen industry engagement.
Founded in 1976, BCIC serves as a platform for policy advocacy, industry representation and dialogue between business and government.
Prashant Gokhale, BCIC President, reflected on the Chamber’s evolution and its continued relevance in the changing economic environment.
K. Ravi, Senior Vice President and Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Committee outlined the plan for the commemorative year. “The Golden Jubilee Year will honor this heritage while focusing on the future, strengthening engagement, encouraging innovation and deepening our contribution to the development of Karnataka,” he said.
