
New Delhi: India signed an agreement on a loan of $ 126.42 million with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support sustainable tourism and rural development in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal District, one of the most air -conditioned and most professional regions.
The TEHRI LAKE project is expected to benefit more than 87,000 locals and 2.7 million annual visitors. It upgrades the infrastructure, improves hygiene and waste management and strengthens the readiness for disasters in the region susceptible to landslides.
“Remarkable features include a grant program for comparing livelihoods to promote tourism led by women, youth and micro, small and medium -sized businesses, a universal approach design, including people with disabilities and risk management initiatives in pilot villages.”
The project comes as a result of lightning floods and cloudbursts that beat Uttarakhand last month. “The ADB loan supports Uttarakhand’s policy government to build a state as a diversified tourist destination for tourism in any weather, with Lake Tehri marked as a priority area for development,” Mukherjee said after signing a loan agreement.
“The project presents a model for a sustainable tourism, anchored around the hydropower lake by receiving a multisector approach to job creation, diversification of income and climate resistance,” added Adb’s Yeo.
The ADB said the initiative will support sustainable tourism through planning, building capacities and inclusive, inclusive climate-resistant devices-post-Panemic recovery, diversification of rural income and environmental revenue. By coordinating the development of rural tourism with land -use planning of land and water for water energy, it will also contribute to international procedures for planning rural tourism.
