Standards prescribe an autopsy block of about 4,000 square feet, including a 2,000-square-foot. ft. of operating space, waiting rooms, administrative space and offal storage. Corridors must be at least eight feet wide to allow wheelchair movement, ceilings at least 10 feet high, and windows must have exterior insect-proof screens with sills no lower than five feet from the floor.
