The Indian female team ensured a historic victory 2-1 over Thailand to ensure its qualifications to the women’s AFC women’s cup on Sunday 5th July.
Sangita scored the orthosis, and this turned out to be the difference at the end, because the blue tigress had to stick to and soak pressure from Thailand to secure their victory. It was the first time that India defeated Thailand, which is located in 24 locations above them in the FIFA ranking.
Sangita opened scoring in the 29th minute before Chatchawan Rodthong equalized the score for Thailand just after the second half. With the match on the edge of the knife, Sangita entered and nodded in the ball to the net to ensure that the victory was sealed.
This will be the first time India has reached the Assian Cup AFC through qualifiers, with 8 performances in the continental event. India last attended the 2003 edition, when qualifications were not introduced. In 2022. India was a host, but had to get off from the tournament because of the Covid-19 focus in Tábor.
The Asian Cup next year will serve as a qualifier for the women’s World Cup Brazil FIFA 2027.
