India and Russia on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) reaffirmed their obligation to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation during a meeting between Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and deputy defense Minister Alexander Fomin.
According to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense, Indian envoy was called for Col-Gen Fomin, who is in charge of international defense cooperation, and the meeting took place in “warm and friendly atmosphere, common for Russian Indian ties”.
“During the interview, both parties discussed in detail the relevant issues of bilateral defense interactions and confirmed their intention to further strengthen the relevant cooperation in the spirit of a particularly privileged strategic partnership,” the statement said.
The meeting took place in the middle of the threat to US President Donald Trump to slap hard sanctions for India for buying oil from Russia.
