India on Monday (July 15, 2025) received the second Ge-F404 engine for the Mark-1A (LCA) fighter program.
The defense official confirmed the development and stated that the public sector of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has taken over the engine delivery and is expected to receive another 12 other GE-F404 engines by the end of the current financial year.
“The engines will be mounted on LCA Mark 1a fighter aircraft. Their delivery has been delayed by more than a year due to disruption of the supplier chain faced by the American engine manufacturer,” the official said.
Indian Air Force (IAF) placed orders for 83 LCA Mark 1a aircraft. The proposal for the enclosure of 97 additional aircraft is in the advanced phase after the Ministry of Defense, the official added.
At the beginning of this year, the Hal received the first Ge-F404 engine in March. The engines will be integrated into LCA MK-1A Fighters, and the Hal focuses on delivery of over 10 aircraft to IAF in the near future.
In August 2021, the Hal ordered an order of 5 375 GBP Crore for 99 engines F404 with GE Aerospace to power the indigenous developed Tejas MK-1A.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh recently led a telephone interview with US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth to review the ongoing and upcoming initiatives aimed at strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries.
