More than 50 years after six -digit delivery of the postal index in India, a revolutionized mail in India, the Ministry of Post developed a 10 -digit digital postal index of the Alpha (DigiPin). “Digipin is like an online map, but only more accurate. Its geolocation is accurate up to 4 meters because it generates geographical width and length. While the PIN code covered a large area (an average area of approximately 170 km on Pincode), Digipin narrows it down to a narrow grid,” Hyderabad Circle, Y. The 10-digit alpha-numeric code represents geographical coordinates developed by the creation of a uniform grid of 4×4 meters of the ground.
DigiPin is a cooperating effort of India Post, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, the National Remote Remote Center and the Indian Research Organization for the Universe.
“The PIN code was used for mail sorting. But its use was limited because many people did not care about its writing and a lot of addressing and delivery was to local knowledge and information. Digipin is a machine -readable code that can help mail delivery even if the drones are deployed for this purpose.”
With increased placement accuracy, Digipine is expected to be very useful during emergencies, as it can generate accurate geographical coordinates ensuring faster response time.
Since Digipin is a grid based on latitude and length, its use for multi -storey building complexes in urban areas is likely to be a challenge.
Digipin is part of the introduction of IT 2.0 India Post, where it will be integrated with mobile devices provided to employees for online postal, financial and insurance transactions.
In the pipeline is a layer of digital address, similar to UPI IDs that helped eliminate the download and use of bank information. Digital address is expected to generate unique and customized labels (such as the@domain username) to represent their digipin and descriptive addresses and manage this information.
Interestingly, India 4 x 4 includes areas in neighboring countries of Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh and generates Digipin for areas also in these countries.
DigiPin can only be accessed and only works if the digital device is allowed to share location.
