South Asia’s analyst Michael Kugelman said on Monday that they believe that relations with India and Pakistan “were in one of the lowest points in a few decades and were closer to war than ever after the crisis of Kargil”
He noted that “the ceasefire really escalated things in a big way” in the middle of the increased tension in India-Pakistan, but this ceasefire could be “fragile”.
In an interview with the press agency or Kugelman, he said the development was fast and the ceasefire was sudden and remarkable.
“Well, it was quite a week, given how we have seen such a large escalation in tension so fast in the last few days, and then there is a very sudden mantle that seemed to be out of nowhere. It’s really remarkable,” Kugelman said.
He added: “I think India, Pakistani relations were in one of the lowest points in a few decades and were closer to the war than ever since the cost crisis.”
However, he was afraid that the ceasefire could be fragile.
“And in this sense, the ceasefire really de-eskaling things in a big way, but I think it will be a fragile ceasefire, because we know that the tension remains relatively high between the two countries,” he said.
The comments of Michael Kugelman came when India and Pakistan announced on May 10. May “understanding” to stop the cross -border military event. India, however, accused Pakistan of violating this understanding shortly after it was reached on Saturday.
The tension between India and Pakistani escalated after the Indian armed forces launched the Sindoor 7 Operation on May and focused on nine terrorist places in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POK).
