Pakistan allegedly banned the use of its ports with Indian flag wearers. This step came on Saturday, just a few hours after India had put fresh repressive measures against Islamabad, including the ban on importing of goods and the entry of Pakistani ships into its ports.
On Saturday, India stated the ban on imports of goods from or transition through Pakistan, as well as the entry of Pakistani ships to its ports, although the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country is determined to take “solid and decisive” steps against terrorists and their supporters.
On Saturday, Pakistan ordered any Indian flag carriers to be allowed to visit any Pakistani port and also forbid Pakistani ships from docking in any Indian port, Pakistan’s newspaper, The Dawn.
According to PTI Dawn, given the recent development of the naval situation with the neighboring countries in Pakistan to protect maritime sovereignty, economic interest and national security, it promotes the following measures with immediate effect:
- “Indian flag carriers must not visit any Pakistani port”
- “Pakistani flag carriers will not visit any Indian harbor”
- “Any exception or dispensing must be explored and determined as case on the case of the case”
The newspaper quoted a order that issued a late Saturday by the Pakistani Ministry for Maritime Affairs ”by the ports and the transport wing.
India Pakistan tension
The titration between India and Pakistan escalated as a result of a terrorist attack of 22 April, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
In fresh repressive measures against Pakistan, which came into effect instantly in the middle of the increased indoor tension as a result of a deadly terrorist attack of Pahalgam, India also suspended the exchange of e-mails, land from the neighboring country through air and surface routes, PTI reported.
In addition to disallowing Pakistani ships to Indian ports of India, according to the General Directorate for Transport (DGS), it also banned Indian ships to visit Pakistan ports. The restriction was introduced with immediate effect, the officials said.
According to the Indian Government order, due to national security and public policy, a total ban on the import of all goods from Pakistan was imposed.
Although 200 % import obligation imposed on Pakistani goods in 2019 after the attack in Pulwam has effectively stopped direct imports, the latest decision also prohibits the entry of Pakistani goods directed to third countries.
Fresh movements came a week and a half after India announced a number of repressive measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters contract, the conclusion of the only land boundary operation and the reduction of diplomatic links after a terrorist attack.
Pakistan also warned against suspending the Siml Agreement.
Maritime trade between India and Pakistan
The maritime trade between India and Pakistan was largely symbolic. Both neighboring countries have a naval border in the Arab Sea, but due to a tense bilateral relationship, the movements of commercial ships have long remained largely limited
In 2024, Indian ports visited about 10 Pakistani ships, while four reports visited Pakistan’s ports in India.
Whatever the trade stock exchange, it was through third countries or land boundaries, such as Attari-Wagah, which is also closed now after the Pahalgam attack.
