
The Indian Navy Has Received ITS First Indigensly Designed and Built Diving Support Vessel (DSV), INS NISTAR, from Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday (July 9, 2025).
The induction of Nistar with almost 75% of the native content is another milestone in the search for indigenous navy after indigenous construction and is in accordance with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, the Indian Navy said.
The Navy also stated that the war ship was designed and built according to the rules of the Indian transport register (IRS). The ship is highly specialized and can perform deep sea diving and rescue operations – ability with selected naval worldwide.
The name of the ship, Nistar, comes from sanskrit and means liberation, rescue or salvation. The ship, measuring 118 ms toning nearly 10,000 tons, is equipped with the latest diving device and can do a deep sea diving up to a depth of 300 meters. The ship also has a side phase of diving to perform diving operations up to a depth of 75 meters, he added.
The Navy explained the operating skills of the ship and stated that the vessel would also serve as a “mother ship” for a deep rescue vessel (DSRV) to save and evacuate the staff, in an emergency in a submarine underwater. The ship is equipped with a combination of remotely controlled vehicles that performs monitoring and rescue of a diver to a depth of 1000 meters.
