Criticizing Pakistan at the United Nations, India said it was “deplorable” that Islamabad continued to abuse the world body’s platform by spreading lies and untruths about the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
India exercised its right of reply in response to Pakistan’s statement in the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly (October 9, 2026) on the agenda item “Decolonization”. The committee deals with special political and decolonization issues.
“It is regrettable that Pakistan continues to abuse this noble forum by spreading lies and falsehoods about the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Mahima Kumari Mewar, Member of Parliament.
Citing India’s strong right of reply, Ms Mewar said a country like Pakistan, with an “established” record of military dictatorship, rigged elections, imprisonment of popularly elected leaders, religious extremism and sponsorship of terrorism as an instrument of state policy, should refrain from “preaching homilies” on the platform in future. “Jammu and Kashmir is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” she said.
India has called on Pakistan to stop grave and ongoing human rights violations in areas it illegally occupies, where the population has openly rebelled against Pakistan’s military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources.
Ms. Mewar said that in the last few months, Pakistani armed forces and their proxies have killed dozens of innocent civilians who were agitating for their basic rights, freedoms and needs.
Ms Mewar is part of a visiting delegation of 15 members of parliament who arrived in New York earlier this week on a familiarization trip to the United Nations. The MPs had a diverse range of engagements during their visit to the UN and also met members of the Indian diaspora at a special reception held at the Consulate General of India in New York.
