India and Bangladesh players shook hands at the end of their U19 ODI World Cup match, with the teams remaining cordial amid rising tensions between the two boards following India’s thrilling victory on Saturday, January 17.
The moment came as a relief to the fans after the captains of the two teams did not shake hands during the draw, which drew comparisons to last year’s India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board clarified soon after that vice-captain Zawad Abrar’s failure to shake hands with Indian captain Ayush Mhatra was not disrespectful. The board said the gesture slipped Zawada’s eye as he stood in for regular captain Azizul Hakim, who fell ill shortly before the match.

Vihaan Malhotra led the turnaround with a decisive spell, claiming four wickets in his four overs to derail Bangladesh’s chase and seal victory for India.
The Bangladeshi players and coaching staff shook hands with their Indian counterparts amicably after the match, effectively nipping the potential controversy in the bud.
