India women pulled out an exciting victory over the new Zealand Women in the Women’s World Championship in the BCCI Center of Excellence Ground B in Bengaluru 25 September. The persecution of the revised goal 224 in 40 overs under the DLS method, India has achieved a goal with only three balls to save and win four goals in the nails.
Standout player was Shafali Verma who returned to action after being Left from the Indian World Cup team. Verma played with her usual fearless style, scored 70 out of 49 balls, hit 11 borders and six, maintaining India and hunting.
Minne Mani, who remained undefeated at 39, was well supported, and Madiwala Matha, who had a 56 scored. After early obstacles – Dinesh Vrinda, Dhara Gujjar and Tejal Hasabnis fallen quickly, so India and 121 for six – lower middle order set up shifts and led the team to win.
New Zealand shifts had a shaky beginning. Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer were cheaply released, while 34 Captain Sophie Devine and 30 Maddy Green could not stop regular breakthroughs from India.
Isabella view of the century (101 out of 100 balls) provided some stability and helped in New Zealand to achieve 273 in nine. Tight bowling from Titas Sadhu, Saima Thakor and Priya Mishhr maintained pressure and revealed shortcomings in the preparation of New Zealand.
The result gives India momentum and raises questions for New Zealand as they regroup before facing India Harmanpreet Kaur 27.
