
India and China will restart Direct Air Services by the end of October 2025, said the Ministry for External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday. The agreement is governed by technical discussions between the Aviation Authorities of both countries for normalization of relations.

“It has now been agreed that direct air services connecting intended points in India and China can continue until the end of October 2025, in accordance with the winter season schedule, the reservation of the commercial decisions of the specified carriers from both countries and fulfilling all operational criteria,” the statement read.
MEA said that since the beginning of this year, as part of the government’s efforts to gradually normalize relations between India China, the civil air authorities have carried out both nations of technical discussions on the restoration of direct air services and negotiations of a new agreement on air services.
The Civil Air Force Agreement seeks to support more contact between people between India and China, which helps to normalize bilateral stock exchanges.
The plan to restore direct air services between India and China comes in the middle of preliminary stamps improvement in their bilateral relationship. Relations hit their lowest point in June 2020 after the deadly border clashes in the Ladakh valley Galwan along the line of real control (LAC), where 20 Indian soldiers and many Chinese troops were killed.

Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that direct flights between India and China will be restored during interviews with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

When were direct flights stopped?
Flights will be restarted after more than five years, because India and China focus on the reconstruction of political ties in the middle of growing business uncertainties around the world.
At the beginning of 2020, direct commercial flights between the main economies in the world were stopped as a preventive measure for the Covid-19 pandemic, followed by a growing tension of borders. Travelers therefore had to connect through regional nodes such as Hong Kong, Singapore or Bangkok, which added both to time and expenses.
