
The Summit on the Impact of Indian Artificial Intelligence concluded with the New Delhi Declaration, which was endorsed by 88 countries and international organizations. The Declaration aims to enhance the societal benefits of AI through international cooperation, skills development and the provision of safe and accessible AI resources to support social empowerment and economic growth.

The Declaration draws its inspiration from the principle of “सर्वजन हिताय, सर्वजन सुकाय” (welfare for all, AI’य best fulfilled, its benefits are accessible to all), emphasizing its humanity potential.
The need for cooperation across the seven chakras
It advocates international collaboration and multi-stakeholder engagement across our nations, focusing on the seven chakras (pillars) of the AI Impact Summit. These pillars focus on developing human capital, expanding access to social empowerment, ensuring the credibility of AI, increasing the energy efficiency of AI systems, using AI in science, democratizing AI resources, and using AI for economic growth and social good.

Respect for national sovereignty
Countries and international organizations will work together to promote a shared understanding while respecting national sovereignty on how artificial intelligence can be used for the benefit of humanity, taking into account initiatives across the Summit’s seven chakras (pillars).

Strong digital infrastructure and accessible connectivity are critical to the deployment and potential of AI. Inspired by “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), the declaration emphasizes making AI resources more accessible and affordable so that all countries can develop and use AI for the benefit of their citizens.

The widespread adoption of artificial intelligence has the potential to significantly boost economic and social development. Open source AI tools and other available AI methods, where appropriate, along with the wide spread of AI use cases, can improve the scalability, replicability, and adaptability of AI systems across sectors.

Safe AI

The Declaration recognized that removing structural barriers and expanding AI research infrastructure can enhance the use of AI in scientific research worldwide. International collaboration unlocks the research potential of AI by sharing expertise, perspectives and resources.
Recognize the potential to uplift all
Artificial intelligence can uplift society by providing access to knowledge, cross-border solutions, services, opportunities and increased participation in social and economic activities. The Declaration recognized the importance of working together to support the adoption of artificial intelligence to empower social benefits.

Human capital
To fully exploit the potential of AI, it is necessary to equip individuals with relevant skills by expanding AI human resource development, implementing targeted training initiatives, providing AI workforce training, training public officials, raising public awareness of AI capabilities, increasing AI literacy, and modernizing vocational education and training ecosystems.
Innovation and efficiency
The statement highlights the need for energy-efficient AI systems. Affordable AI can expand access and foster local innovation to meet common development goals. The Voluntary Guiding Principles for Resilient, Innovative and Effective Artificial Intelligence will guide us in developing resilient and effective AI systems.
The Declaration concludes that the AI Impact Summit will promote international cooperation and a multi-stakeholder approach to promote shared priorities, voluntary guidelines and principles and support AI for a prosperous future for humanity.
