
Indian Americans donated more than £25,000 crore ($ 3 billion) at US universities since 2008, revealing a new report from IndiaSpora.
The report that builds on the Indian’s impact report 2024 with Boston Consulting Group emphasizes how Indian American philanthropy helps to shape the future of higher education in the United States. Many of these donors – successful experts, entrepreneurs and academics – attribute their own university experience in the US as a launchpad for their career.
“By investing universities, Indian American donors who appreciate education, they give their money where their mouths are,” said Mr. Rangaswami, founder and chairman of the Indaspory. “They also make a wider statement – that they believe in the American future and want to provide an opportunity for all.”
Post Indian Diaspora
- 78% of Indian Americans have a bachelor’s or higher title – far above the national average.
- About 270,000 Indian students are currently studying at American universities.
- These students almost contribute £83,000 crore ($ 10 billion) to the US. Economy every year, support over 93,000 jobs.

Gifts
Since 2008, Indian Americans have contributed £25,000 crore for us. universities.
The largest share of gifts has been in medical and health sciences, engineering and business education. Cultural protection is also the main area with £1 170 Crore ($ 140 million) Contribution to cultural programming, including Foundations for South Asian, Hindu and Indian studies.

Indian Americans also support community universities, city universities and public schools and help extend access to quality education for Americans of all backgrounds.
Given that the Indian US community continues to increase influence across technology, business, academic community, its impact on higher education, both financial and intellectual, is further prepared to grow.
