India and Sri Lanka will be hoping that the weather finally allows them to take the field when they meet in the Asian Games cricket semi-final in Nagoya on September 30. India vs Afghanistan Quarter Final was among the matches played, while Pakistan’s match against Hong Kong, Sri Lanka’s match against Nepal and Bangladesh’s match against Malaysia were also postponed due to persistent rain.

After days of unsettled weather in Nagoya, the focus is once again on the skies ahead of the India-Sri Lanka semi-final. India progressed to the last four without taking the field, while Sri Lanka also progressed after their quarter-final was cancelled.

According to Accuweather, there is currently no chance of rain in the forecast for September 30, although occasional cloud cover is expected. Temperatures are likely to stay around 20 degrees Celsius. However, Nagoya has been experiencing persistent rainfall in recent days, meaning the state of the outfield could still be a concern even if the rain stays away.

WHO QUALIFIES IF INDIA VS SRI LANKA WASH?

If rain prevents the India-Sri Lanka semi-final, the higher team will qualify for the final. The Asian Games competition uses the ICC T20I rankings to determine the team that advances if a knockout match is abandoned without a result.

India are ranked higher than Sri Lanka in the ICC T20I rankings and would therefore advance to the final if the semi-final match fails. India had already benefited from the same rule in their quarter-final against Afghanistan, while Sri Lanka progressed against Nepal after their match was abandoned.

In the other semi-final, Pakistan will face Bangladesh. Pakistan reached the last four after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was scrapped, while Bangladesh progressed after their match against Malaysia was also abandoned.

With all four quarter-finals failing to produce a single delivery, India and Sri Lanka will be hoping that September 30 brings a much-needed break in the rain to allow the Asian Games semi-finals to continue.
