India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma etched his name in the history books as he hit the most sixes in ODI cricket during the first match against South Africa on Sunday, November 30 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. Rohit came into the match needing just three sixes to overtake Shahid Afridi who held the record with 351 sixes in 369 innings.
He first equalized with Afridi with back-to-back sixes off Prenelan Subrayen in the 15th over. Rohit went on to break the record with his signature shot as he dispatched Marc Jansen over the fine leg boundaries. The opening batsman already has the most sixes in T20Is, having hit a maximum of 205 in 151 innings. He also has 88 sixes from 116 innings in Test cricket, taking his total to 642 in international cricket, another world record.
