South Africa’s premier fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will miss the upcoming limited-overs series against India and will return home to recover from a rib injury he sustained during training ahead of the ongoing Test series. On the other hand, Anrich Nortje will return to international cricket after 16 months, he has been named in the T20I squad.
India and South Africa will compete in a three-match ODI series from November 30 to December 6followed by a five-match T20I series starting on December 9. Quinton de Kock, who recently came out of ODI retirement, was included in the squad. The wicketkeeper-batsman was named player of the series against Pakistan after finishing as the leading run-scorer with 232 runs from three innings, including a century and two fifties.
However, Luhan de Pretorius, South Africa’s second highest run-scorer in the away ODI series against Pakistan, was not picked for this series. Top batsman Aiden Markram, who was rested from the T20Is against Pakistan after captaining the Test side, will take over the T20I captaincy from Donnovan Ferreira. Markram is also part of the ODI squad for the India series.
Veteran left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has returned to the white-ball line-up after missing out on the Pakistan tour. Meanwhile, Pacer Anrich Nortje, who last played for South Africa in the T20 World Cup final against India last year, has been named in the T20I squad.
